Hi @Ace353569,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Before proceeding with BIOS update, it's crucial to ensure you're following the correct steps and precautions. Here's a general guideline.
- Verify your current BIOS version: Boot your computer and enter the BIOS setup. This is usually done by pressing a specific key during the boot process, like F2 or Del. Once in BIOS, find the current BIOS version. This will help you confirm whether an update is necessary.
- Download the latest BIOS update: Visit our HP official website and navigate to the support or downloads section. Look for the latest BIOS update for your specific laptop model. Download the update to a USB flash drive.
- Prepare for BIOS update: Ensure your laptop is connected to a reliable power source throughout the update process. It's also recommended to disconnect any unnecessary peripherals or accessories.
- Update BIOS: Restart your laptop and access the BIOS setup again. There should be an option within the BIOS settings to initiate the update process. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully to select the BIOS update file from the USB flash drive and begin the update process.
- Wait for completion: The BIOS update process may take several minutes. Do not interrupt it or turn off your laptop during this time, as it could lead to serious issues.
- Verify BIOS update: Once the update is complete, restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup again to confirm that the new BIOS version has been successfully installed.
As for your question about formatting the hard drive from the command prompt and typing "assign," it seems like you're referring to disk management commands in Windows. If you've formatted your hard drive using these commands, you'd typically proceed with installing an operating system (OS) next, before updating the BIOS. The BIOS update process can be done after the OS is installed, as described above.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Just to expand on what @Raj_05 wrote, if you are going to install window 11 you should try to use the cloud recovery.
Go here, put in your full Product ID, and see if you have cloud restore.
