HP 14-fq0041nr
Linux

Hi, I have HP14-fq0041nr Laptop , it's had 64GB Emmc SSD embedded with it, I tried to install  Linux since I didn't Windows anymore, with no luck,

Last What I tried  were Arch Linux arch Linux , the normal installer didn't detect that Emmc drive,

but when I select EFI shell it's show up immediately, BTW I already installed the latest HP BIOS on it, but it change nothing.
I can boot to the Linux Distro installer/Live DVD via the Flash thumb drive,
The problem that all Linux LiveCD installer can't detect that Emmc storage, like it's not there, Windows 10 Installer can see it perfectly.
Looks like this Laptop locks the Emmc to only the EFI shell, so is there method to make Linux works on it.

Some of the newer HP laptops no longer provide the ability to turn off Secure Boot or to enable Legacy boot -- and either of those could be preventing the EMMC memory from showing.  Installing Linux on these newer laptops, unless the Linux community finds workarounds to these issues, is not going to be possible.

I'm sorry, but HP does not provide support for Linux distros.

IF you replace the preloaded Windows OS with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.

Modern PCs with UEFI, instead of the older BIOS, are especially difficult to install because you have to go into the UEFI settings and make several changes before you can even boot from a USB stick -- and we are unable to assist in that work.

Your best bet for support now is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.

Good Luck

Hi, thanks for  your reply, lack  for Linux support in HP laptops, is something I'm aware off long time ago,
I come here curiously wonder what did HP BIOS do to hide that the Emmc drive  from other OS's installer, I couldn't find any options in the BIOS menu to make it visible, BTW Linux Distros I tried all support UEFI DVD/Flash disk boot, I boot them successfully from Live CD , but there is something odd prevent their installer from seeing the Emmc drive, that was the only device were hidden, even I disable all security option on the BIOS .
