Hello,

I recently had the motherboard of my HP Victus replaced. After logging in with my windows, it said it'll restore all my files, apps and other things since the last backup. After having done that, I still miss all my apps and a file folder with my school work. And every time I start my laptop up, a message on the screen saying: "manufacturing mode in unlock mode" pops up, and it makes me wonder if that might be the problem my apps have not properly been restored. I really need those apps (Adobe creative cloud apps; photoshop, indesign ect..) for school because I have work saved "on this device" instead of the Cloud and I was hoping if it restores the apps, it also restores all the data and files I had saved in those apps. (Can someone confirm if this is right?)

Is there a way to fix this?

Hi @DB062,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand, you’ve raised two important issues here:

1. Why Your Apps and Files Didn’t Restore

When the motherboard was replaced, your system likely performed a Windows recovery using a previous backup or cloud sync. This process:

  • Restores Windows settings and some files if you had OneDrive or backup enabled.
  • Does NOT reinstall third-party apps like Adobe Creative Cloud unless they were part of a full system image backup.
  • Files saved locally on the device (not synced to the cloud) may not return if the storage drive is replaced or reformatted.

So, if your school work was stored on the old drive and that drive wasn’t cloned or backed up, those files are unfortunately not recoverable unless the old drive is still available for data recovery.

2. “Manufacturing Mode in Unlock Mode” Message

This message means:

  • The BIOS is in Manufacturing/Service Mode, which is used by HP technicians after hardware replacement.
  • It does NOT affect Windows restoring apps or files, but it should be disabled for security and proper functioning.

How to fix it:

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  2. Look for Manufacturing Mode or Service Mode.
  3. Change it to Locked or Disabled.
  4. Save changes and exit.

If you don’t see the option, you may need to:

  • Perform a BIOS reset to factory defaults.
  • Or contact HP Support to lock the mode properly.

What You Can Do Now

  • Reinstall Adobe Creative Cloud apps manually from the Adobe website.
  • If you had files saved locally and the old drive is available, you can:
    • Connect it via USB enclosure and recover your data.
    • Or use a data recovery service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
