Update for those who are having the same problem: it's a silicon issue. My unit has a GPU issue that triggers only when 10-bit color mode and HDR are enabled together. If one of the two options is disabled, then no more artifacting.


For my story, I got my unit replaced once (apparently just the motherboard...) and the problem was reduced but is still present. As it is less visible now (only showing green dots on screen), it is difficult to prove what is happening to those "very experienced" people that you call on the phone. They ask you to reboot and do a bunch of self-tests that the computer will eventually pass without failure while you are telling them that the issue is related to the GPU because you've spent hours digging online searching for a similar issue and found nothing similar blahblahblah... well I'm stuck with that now ! / - :

I am experiencing critical stability issues with the recent BIOS updates, specifically versions F11.revA and F12.revA. After updating from BIOS version 10 (which is generally stable but does experience rare crashes), my system encounters frequent blue screen crashes. These crashes occur completely at random—sometimes just after startup, and other times in the middle of a working session, without any specific action triggering them. On the unstable BIOS versions, the crash frequency can reach up to two or three, even five crashes per hour.

System Information:

  • Model: HP Spectre x360 Laptop 14-eu0759nz
  • Current BIOS Version: F12.revA (will roll back to BIOS version 10 due to stability issues)
  • OS: Windows 11 x64, Version 23H2, OS Build 22631.4391

Issue Summary:

  • The system is mostly stable on BIOS version 10, with only occasional crashes that are rare enough not to be a major disruption.
  • However, when updating to either F11.revA or F12.revA, the system becomes highly unstable, with frequent crashes during normal operation.
  • Rolling back to BIOS version 10 restores system stability, suggesting that the issue is related to changes in the newer BIOS versions.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  1. Ran SFC /scannow and DISM commands to verify system integrity—no persistent issues were detected.
  2. Updated all drivers, including chipset and Intel management drivers, to the latest versions.
  3. Contacted HP Support and worked with an HP expert. After extensive troubleshooting, we were unable to resolve the instability caused by the newer BIOS versions.
