Let's start by confirming we are using the same terms.  To me, "bricked" means what the term implies -- the laptop has been turned into an electric "brick" -- and is STONE DEAD. Will not power up, will not display a screen, will not show any sign of life.  If this is the case, there is no saving it -- as it is DEAD.

If that is NOT the case, which I suspect, then please describe what is happening.

Even if the new HDD was blank, which would not be the case with a CLONED drive, the laptop would still power on, display an HP logo when booting, and attempt to boot into Windows -- not at all like being "bricked".
