Hi @Justinie,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP computer is stuck on a message like “Attempting to recover the installation” followed by “Undoing changes”, it usually means that a recent Windows update or installation failed, and the system is trying to roll back the changes. This can sometimes lead to a boot loop or system instability.
Try These Steps to Fix It:
1. Wait for the Process to Complete
- Sometimes the rollback can take 30–60 minutes.
- If it’s stuck for hours, proceed to the next step.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Power off the laptop completely.
- Unplug the charger and remove any external devices.
- Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Power it back on and see if it boots normally.
3. Boot into Recovery Mode
If it still loops:
- Power on and force shut down (hold power button) 3 times in a row.
- On the 4th boot, it should enter Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
- Choose:
- Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair
- Or try System Restore if you have restore points.
4. Use a Windows 11 Bootable USB
If WinRE doesn’t load, try: HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
- Create a bootable USB using the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool.
- Boot from the USB (press ESC > F9 on startup).
- Choose Repair your computer > Troubleshoot.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
