I tried to update windows and it got stuck in auto repair loop. I have hardly used this laptop. I tried everything under troubleshooting. It wouldn't even let me reset the laptop or anything, it kept going back to auto repair then the blue screen to trouble shoot etc. Well now after 3 hours of trying the prompts it started up asking for screen password, I put it in and it's now saying I have no operating system and I have to install one. Is the operating system windows 10? If so, how do I go about installing it? I used to know a lot more about computers back in late 90s early 2000s, then I stopped really using them a while and here came smartphones LOL so I'm kinda behind on the newer PC tech, please help & thanks in advance! 😁

Hi:
The 'boot device not found' message could be that you just need to reinstall Windows, because the PC can't find a drive (boot device) with an operating system on it, or it could be that the eMMC drive has failed.
If it is the first scenario, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support
Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.
Your PC's product number is: 9VK97UA#ABA
If you can't reinstall Windows, then most likely the drive has failed.
You can run the hard drive diagnostics test (F2) in the BIOS and see what it reports.
If the drive fails the test, you can't replace the drive, and buying a new motherboard probably would be throwing good money after bad.
