Hello,

I am continuing to have this issue, where my computer enters an automatic repair dialog which can only be solved by performing a system reset. This means having to reinstall programs which I do not want to have to do repeatedly. I am not sure if it is a hardware or OS issue, but I do know that it happens after Windows suddenly stops recognising my Bluetooth headphones - this is what prompted me to restart the first time this problem occurred. I notice that the laptop attempts to repair itself automatically, but is unable to do so because it cannot connect to the network (see attached photo). I am wondering if by fixing this issue of being unable to connect to repair the issue will make it possible to fix the OS boot protocol without having to resort to the system reset.

Thank you for your consideration.

Update: I was able to partially restore my system through the System Restore feature in the Windows Recovery Environment. This did mean having to reinstall some programs but I think I found what was causing the issue. Attached is a photo of the Windows update that seems to be responsible. Hopefully this will be useful for others who run into the same problem. systemrestore.png

@RaymondLeonard, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics for Drive and Memory

Before assuming it’s only software, rule out hardware:

Turn off the laptop completely.

Power on and immediately tap Esc → F2.

Choose System Tests → Quick Test (run Memory and Drive tests).

If any test fails, note the failure ID and contact HP Support for service.

If all pass, move to software repair steps.

Use HP Recovery Environment to Repair Windows Boot

Power off the laptop.

Turn it on and repeatedly tap F11 until Choose an Option → Troubleshoot → Advanced options appears.

Run these in order:

Startup Repair → Let Windows attempt automatic repair.

If that fails → Command Prompt → run these commands one by one:

  • sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows
  • dism /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • bootrec /fixmbr
  • bootrec /fixboot
  • bootrec /rebuildbcd

Close and restart.

This repairs boot files and restores damaged system files without doing a full reset.

Prevent Update from Reapplying

Since you found a specific Windows Update that triggers the issue:

Boot normally after restore.

In Windows, open Settings → Windows Update → Update history → Uninstall updates.

Uninstall the problem update (the same one shown in your screenshot).

Run Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter (Microsoft tool) and hide that update so it won’t reinstall.

Repair Bluetooth Driver Conflict

Because the first sign of the problem was Bluetooth failure:

Open Device Manager → Bluetooth.

Right-click each adapter → Uninstall device (check Delete the driver software if available).

Restart the laptop.

Install the HP-provided Bluetooth driver from support.hp.com for your model (not Windows Update).

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
