Microsoft Windows 11

I turned my laptop on and it was in the middle of a bios update which I did not request. After the update I checked the settings in HP support assistant and the bios was not set to automatically update. Does HP push bios updates with no warning?

Hi @Fisher007,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand you have a question regarding the BIOS Auto-update. However, I would like to let you know that DFCI enables Windows to pass management commands from Intune to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface). In Intune, use this feature to control BIOS settings. Typically, firmware is more resilient to malicious attacks. It limits end-users control over the BIOS, which is good in a compromised situation.

This feature applies to:

  • Windows 11 on supported UEFI
  • Windows 10 RS5 (1809) and later on supported UEFI ( Microsoft Document)

HP does not push automatic BIOS updates if the customer has disabled the settings from the HP support assistant.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello Fisher007,

In addition to the standard Windows update, HP offers an additional software HP Support Assistant that is surely installed on your computer. This updates your system in addition to the Windows Update. If the HP software had an automatic update turned on, this explains its situation.

Please check your HP Support Assitant Settings.
