Mistakenly I have overwritten the EFI partiton on my hard disk, which caused the computer not to boot to windows.

I ran system diganostics test on my hard drive and memory and both passed.

I decided then to do a factory reset and recovery using the (HP usb recovery drive) which I bought with my laptop.

I have got my way through some other software to back up my data on an external hard drive as the (HP recovery manager usb) tool for backup kept taking very long time and then failing to complete the backup.

Finally I keep trying to do the factory reset using the (HP recovery usb drive), and it keeps rebooting to the factory manager first screen at some point, with the options to backup or the do the factory reset. I tried to unplug the usb drive at some point as this shows, and try to boot to windows 10 but it keeps asking for the recovery manager drive, and the details section shows that "System BCD doesn't exist".

To state some facts: I already done system diagnostic on hard drive and memory, all passed, I have already tried to do rebuild bcd but fails, I tried accessing the recovery manager partition on the hard drive after this operation but no luck, and I repeated this recovery manager operation about 5 times!!!

I am very disappointed, as I have lots of work to do, and I am computer engineering student, and I really was putting too much confidence in this usb drive to factory reset my computer, but no luck as I keep trying several fixes, and non works, and I did pay a lot for this usb stick, but it seems really to be very poorly created.

If the OS partition is still intact, but the EFI boot partition got removed, then you might be able to use this third-party repair tool, and another PC, to rebuild the missing partition and get the PC booting again.

Follow the instructions below to create boot media from Macrium Reflect (MR) that can be used to rewrite/repair the boot media on your PC:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from this link: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
2) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

That will create MR bootable media. Then, you can boot your PC into WinPE using that media.

Have patience, as that can take a while to start and bring up the screen.

Once the screen is there, select the option to Fix Windows boot problems. It will then search for the OSs installed and list them, Select the one you want to repair and click Next.

It will now do the repairs, listing the things it has done.

When finished, select the option to Restart the PC.

Unfortunately, it did not work, as after the fix done, my laptop kept repooting after reaching the welcome screen trying to sign in as administrator, and finally reaching the same screen of "the recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons:"

And with a cto error file having:

"....there might be unexpected reboot during windows startup...

....the process will cause cto panic...

....because the image might not be normal nown..."

It seems to me that the windows has not been setup correctly, and that the recovery usb is corrupted, but I am not sure honestly.

I tried by the way to install a clean iso windows 10 image from microsoft, however it could not install on the disk as the disk was formatted as gpt. I guess I could format the whole disk as mbr and try again this way, but I really want to use this expensive not working recovery usb by hp!

Sorry I can't help you with the HP Recovery Media as I do not use that, since I make my own recovery media and find that to be far more reliable.

For assistance with that, you would have to contact HP Customer Support.
