Hi all.

Too long a story to go into why, but my situation means I need into the BIOS.

I can get into the BIOS using admin, but before I can get anywhere else I have to input a new password.

Here lies the problem. No matter what I put in as a new password, it gets rejected.

Ive tried all sorts to try and meet the criteria. No luck.

Can anyone help?

Hello @BigDingus

Welcome back to the HP Support Community.

You can reset the security settings to default and remove any existing passwords by removing the then reinsering back the RTC battery (real time clock battery)

For your model this may be the solution. You need to open the back end of the PC and do it. Here are instructions for similar models and pictures shown :

After removing and reinserting back the RTC battery, power on the PC, load into BIOS and try setting up new password. Newer HP business class devices may have settings for password complexity but this one does not have. You can try password long at least 8 characters and add some letters in the mix, similar to Berlin2016, or Berlin16, for example.

Hope this helps

Thanks for posting this help.

Ive done most of what you suggested already but without success. I just can't see why it won't accept my new password and let me in.

The password I last tried, and I've tried many, was Ihatepassw0rds@

I'll have a look at your link.

Thanks

I hope I'm calling it the correct name by calling it BIOS.

It's when the laptop starts and you input cntr-P. This offers you a page to change settings.
