I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing charging issues with your HP laptop. Based on your description, it seems the problem occurs primarily when the laptop is powered on, despite the hardware components testing fine. Below are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue: ### 1. Update BIOS and Firmware Outdated BIOS or firmware can cause charging irregularities. Here's how to update them: - Identify Your BIOS Version: - Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter. - In the System Information window, look for "BIOS Version/Date." - Download the Latest BIOS: - Visit the [HP Support Website](https://support.hp.com). - Enter your laptop's model number and navigate to the "Drivers & Software" section. - Download the latest BIOS update available. - Install the BIOS Update: - Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the HP installer. - Important: Ensure your laptop is connected to a power source during the update and do not turn it off until the process is complete. ### 2. Update or Reinstall Power Management Drivers Corrupted or outdated power management drivers can interfere with the charging process. - Using Device Manager: 1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager. 2. Expand the Batteries section. 3. Right-click on Microsoft AC Adapter and select Uninstall device. 4. Do the same for Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. 5. After uninstalling, restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the necessary drivers. - Alternatively, Download Drivers from HP: - Visit the [HP Support Website](https://support.hp.com). - Enter your laptop's model number. - Download and install the latest chipset and power management drivers. ### 3. Adjust Power Settings Incorrect power settings might prevent the battery from charging properly when the laptop is in use. - Access Power Options: 1. Press Win + X and select Power Options. 2. Click on Additional power settings. 3. Select your current power plan and click Change plan settings. 4. Click on Change advanced power settings. - Modify Battery Settings: - Expand the Battery section. - Ensure that settings like Critical battery action, Low battery level, etc., are appropriately configured. - Check if there are any settings related to battery charging thresholds and adjust them if necessary. ### 4. Perform a Power Reset Sometimes residual electrical charge can cause charging issues. Performing a power reset can help. 1. Shut Down Your Laptop: - Completely turn off the laptop. 2. Disconnect All Power Sources: - Unplug the AC adapter. - If possible, remove the battery. (Note: Some modern laptops have non-removable batteries.) 3. Drain Residual Power: - Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. 4. Reconnect and Restart: - Plug the AC adapter back in. - Reinsert the battery if you removed it. - Turn on your laptop and check if the charging issue persists. ### 5.
