HP ENVY x360 - m6-ar004dx (ENERGY STAR)

I'm reaching out regarding persistent BIOS-related issues with my HP Envy x360 m6-ar004dx laptop. My current BIOS version is F.14, and I am unable to update to any newer versions (F.15, F.16, or F.17). Every update attempt fails during the flash process, returning errors like "Verification of flash failed," whether done through Windows, recovery USB, or HP BIOS Configuration Utility.

Additionally, BIOS settings such as virtualization (VT-x), Secure Boot, and Legacy Support do not persist after saving and rebooting — they always revert to their previous state. This makes it impossible to enable virtualization, which I need for legitimate use cases such as virtual machines and cybersecurity training.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I've already taken:

  • Disabled antivirus/firewall (Norton 360)

  • Attempted BIOS updates from F.14 to F.15, F.16, and F.17

  • Tried recovery flash via USB using Win+B and Win+V methods

  • Used BIOS Configuration Utility with force flags

  • Performed CMOS reset (successful, but didn’t resolve BIOS issue)

  • Verified BIOS ID and proper renaming of .bin files

  • All updates fail at the verification or flashing stage

This appears to be either a BIOS lock, a write-protection issue, or corruption. I'm seeking your guidance on:

  1. Whether a custom or signed BIOS file is available for my model to help reflash the firmware

  2. If there is a firmware unlock method or password required

  3. Next steps or repair options you recommend
