I have already added my comment but it seems that this system only wants positive feedback. None of tbe fixes have worked for me and two engineers have confirmed that the motherboard is now dead and too expensive to replace bearing in mind the cost of the laptop and additional cost of data recovery. £350 down the drain!

Just throw the machine in the bin.  I've soent days trying every solution and vusited two qualified engineers who both say that the motherboard is dead and not worth repairing and believe me we've been through every possible test/fix and nothing but a fan whirring round, a pwer light and a black sreen.

Hey I’m sorry to read this, I know how you feel it’s gut wrenching! I think what did it was the strength of my WiFi the issue occurred at work when lots of people are using the WiFi, I tried to switch it in and followed the advise in the thread and as I have a strong signal it seemed to power over the update and ran it through ok, try with no other items or phones etc on your home WiFi just a suggestion, seems to me it needs a strong signal with no use on the line to achieve, hope it works, best to you 😊

I am sorry you are so unhappy.

Whatever happened to your computer is not the same issue described and resolved in this thread.  A stuck BIOS update is not the same thing as a failed board, regardless of how the damage occurs.

Spilling bile onto this thread is a means of getting your message out to the people who will read this solution.  Unfortunately, acts of this type usually accomplish little to alleviate personal pain.  It does give you the opportunity to tell us how you feel.

I understand you are disappointed - your entire computer cost little more than the cost of the motherboard.  If the main component, the only expensive component, fails and makes a device unusable, it is frustrating.

Replace the device with one of your choosing - regardless of brand.  If you know that you cannot afford - or do not wish to pay for - possible repairs, consider the cost of replacement (should the device fail) against the cost of an extended warranty package.

Data recovery is not so difficult as long as you have backups of your personal data.  For example, you may have your personal data backed up to a remote File Server (at home) using File History (for example).  You might have backed up your personal data to OneDrive (Microsoft) or another of the "Cloud" backup services.   Backups are, of course, essential to a smooth recovery process.

The actual Windows 10 Operating System is easily replaced.  Purchased software (for example Office) need only be reinstalled from Microsoft (key required, of course).  Printer(s) are easily reinstalled, too, from their own Website Support pages.

Ask for help from the forum / community that manufactures and supports your next device.

I also was promted to do a BIOS update by my HP Assistant. I went through it fine with the download, but when it came time to restart my laptop, I got this blue screen.  I’m unable to press any button and have it respond. I have tried shutting it down, unplugging it and holding the power button down for 40 seconds - and I always return to this blue screen. I also was having no problems w my computer at all. This makes me so angry! I also am outside the warranty and see this as HP’s fault. Please advise as to what I can do to fix this. Thank you.
