BIOS and Firmware Updates

EliteBook 8460w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I understand that HP has not release drivers for Windows 10 for this Elitebook. I'm wondering if i can still use the BIOS and Firmware updates listed for Windows 7. I do not have a way to reinstall 7 and run the updates.

If so, do I download and run BIOS update followed by the BIOS update UEFI?

BIOS and Firmware Updates

Hi,

Eventhough BIOS is OS independent in function, HP releases BIOS updates based on operating system. Hence your only option is to go back to Windows 8.1/8/7 to update BIOS (if it is absolutely necessary to do it).

There is a BIOS version listed supported for Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista/XP:

BIOS and Firmware Updates

Visruth,

Thanks!

I booted into BIOS and it said "Place the System BIOS and signature file on a FAT32 partition either on the system hard drive or on a removable USB key under the "Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New" folder.

Add or verify the HP BIOS update utility (HPBiosupdate.efi) and signature file are located on the same FAT32 partition under the following folder path: "Hewlett-Packard\BIOSUpdate"

The System BIOS will updated on the next restart

Cancel

I'm confused. Do I place the BIOS in two different places? What is the difference between the System BIOS, signature file, and the update utility. How do i verify them by file name?

If i try this with 10 installed will i brick this machine?

Thanks!

Yes you are definitely going to make a brick out of it.

Please don't proceed.

On running BIOS setup file, an installation wizard asks you where to install it. So from here you tell it to put it in USB. That's how I do it.
