Hello All,

My secondary laptop has not been running a lot during its 8 year stretch (upgraded to 8GB RAM, and SSD runs well enough for basic operations). Unforutnately recently it was switched off for around 2 years. Now, when I start it up again heat sink fan works at full speed all time even though CPU is cool, radiators are clean and there is no load on CPU. I read that BIOS update may be a solution - but there is no more BIOS available to download from HP support page. I know there was, because I have updated BIOS in the past, currently it is running on F.27.

If someone has a backup or knows a backup archive of BIOS versions - link would be appreciated 😉

Other internet tips tell that CMOS reset would help, but I don't really know how to do that on this laptop.

Is there any place where I can restore BIOS or upgrade BIOS/UEFI?

Any other help or hint would be appreciated.

Cheers!

PS. Fans always on in BIOS is set to Disabled - didn't change anything.

Hi @m5pl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

"I understand that you're looking for a BIOS update, and I know how frustrating it can be when support for a device is limited. Unfortunately, this model has reached the end of its update cycle, and no new BIOS or driver updates are available. However, I want to help you make the most of what’s still accessible. I recommend installing the HP Support Assistant on your PC—it’s designed to scan your system effortlessly and detect any available updates, making the process as smooth as possible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @VikramTheGreat,

Thanks for effort, but I already have HP Support Assistant and the only thing it does is tell me that everything is OK, while it clearly isn't.

I'm not looking for update, I am looking to restore factory BIOS. It's a shame software backup is hidden for this 7 year old model, while many older ones have backup available. To be honest - I doubt BIOS downgrade/update would help, but this is a common tip in the internet.

Also I am pretty sure backup is still available on HP ftp - I simply don't know the softpaq number to identify and download it. Do you, by any chance, know how to get the softpaq no?

Any other clue or tip would be welcome - if available.

Hi @m5pl,

Regarding your product, since this is an obsolete model, the drivers are no longer available on the HP website. Unfortunately, this means I won’t be able to check for any previous or updated versions of the BIOS for this device.

However, you can try performing a BIOS Restore, which may help revert the system to a previous working version of the BIOS. Let me know if you need any guidance on this process!

BIOS Restore:
1) Shutdown the computer, keep the  charger plugged

2) Hold down the Windows and B button together while the computer is still turned off.

3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B button until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.

4) Follow on-screen instructions and click on OK

 I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @VikramTheGreat,

BIOS restore using win+B and power combination doesn't work - strange. It ends up with black screen and caps lock button light blinking. HP movie recommends to hold power button1-3 seconds. If I hold power button longer than 3 seconds laptops shutdowns. Holding power for 2 seconds (with win+B also held) changes nothing. I end up with blank, black screen..

Regards.
