I NEED TO REINSTALL BIOS. HOW DO I DO THIS.

Here are the general steps to update the BIOS on a Chromebook.

 

  1. Connect to the Internet: Ensure that your Chromebook is connected to the internet. Chrome OS updates, including BIOS updates, are typically delivered over the internet.

  2. Check for Updates: Chromebooks automatically check for updates regularly. However, you can manually check for updates by following these steps:

    • Click on the time in the bottom-right corner.
    • Click on the gear icon to open Settings.
    • Scroll down and click on "About Chrome OS" or "About Chrome" at the bottom of the settings page.
    • Click on "Check for updates."
  3. Install Updates: If an update is available, your Chromebook will download and install it automatically. Make sure to save any important work and restart your Chromebook if required.

  4. Powerwash (Optional): If you are facing significant issues and suspect that the BIOS is causing problems, you might consider performing a Powerwash. A Powerwash is a factory reset that removes all user data from the device. This can help resolve software-related issues. To perform a Powerwash:

    • Open Settings.
    • Scroll down and click on "Advanced."

HI Alden4,

 

Thanks for your reply and some really useful tips there!

 

Good news my laptop is fixed now .  Left it off for a few days, turned it on and it works???!!!

 

I ran HP Support Assistant to check for errors in software/hardware and no issues plus my BIOS is now upto date.
