I received an HP dv6-6000 laptop as a gift. When I turn it on, it emits short, repetitive beeps—an endless loop—while the screen remains black. I can break the loop by pressing the Caps Lock key a few times.
DeepSeek suggested the issue lies with the BIOS (the RAM and other components are fine). The BIOS battery was extremely hot, so I bought and installed a new one. Afterward, I encountered BIOS errors 501 and 502; pressing Enter was supposed to trigger a recovery process, but the endless beeping loop started up again. Only pressing Caps Lock stopped it.
DeepSeek advised downloading the BIOS recovery file for my laptop, but no matter where I look, I can't find it! Also, HP Support Assistant simply won't launch on my machine. Please help—I’m a student with no money.

Hi  @frostyankka,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how it can feel when the computer won't start and you're unable to locate the BIOS recovery files. Dont worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you kindly confirm the below details :

  • Whether the Caps Lock LED blinks in a pattern (for example, 2 blinks, 3 blinks, etc.) when the beeping occurs.
  • Did the laptop ever display anything on the screen after replacing the RTC/CMOS battery?
  • Have any hardware changes been made recently (RAM, hard drive, wireless card, etc.)?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps:

  1. Perform a Hard Reset (Link for the steps - click here )
    • Disconnect the AC adapter.
    • Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds.
    • Reconnect only the AC adapter.
    • Attempt to power on the notebook.
  2. Try HP BIOS Recovery (Link for steps - Click here )
    • Turn the notebook off completely.
    • Press and hold the Windows + B keys.
    • While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds, then release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B for another 10-15 seconds.
    • Listen for beeps or watch for any activity on the screen.
    • If BIOS Recovery starts, follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Check the Beep Pattern
    • Continuous or repeating beeps can sometimes indicate a hardware issue rather than a BIOS corruption. The exact beep or blink pattern can help identify the failing component.

Regarding HP Support Assistant, it typically requires Windows to be running, so it would not help if the notebook is unable to boot.

Once you provide the product number and the Caps Lock blink pattern (if any), I'll help determine whether this is a BIOS corruption issue, a motherboard problem, or another hardware fault, and guide you through the next steps.

I hope this helps.

Hello. The RAM was not fully inserted and I inserted it, there were no more hardware changes. Also, after replacing the BIOS battery, there is nothing new. I am attaching a video when trying to follow the instructions (win+B).https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RoMp1ErCQzQ7BsyyIzSnZfvCzAAFR9sh/view?usp=drivesdk

Hi @frostyankka,

Thanks for your response and Thank you for sharing the video and the additional details.

Based on the behaviour shown in the video, the system is producing a long beep and displaying the CMOS 502 error even after attempting the BIOS recovery procedure (Windows + B). Since the RAM has been properly reseated, the CMOS battery has already been replaced, and the BIOS recovery process is not resolving the issue, this appears to be indicative of a hardware-related problem rather than a BIOS recovery issue.

At this point, we recommend having the notebook inspected by an authorized HP Service Center, To ensure your device receives the appropriate care, we recommend visiting an authorized HP service center. Our certified technicians can provide a thorough diagnosis and offer the best solutions to address the issue.
