Hi,

sp155081.exe (BIOS update) fails. It indicates that the laptop lacks disk space (it has 148GB free).. Any idea?

There's no room in the EFI partition for the bios backup to fit.

You can make the partition bigger if you want but it's probably not worth the trouble since all you want to do is update the bios and there are plenty of backups that can be downloaded.

When you download the bios update, select the option that creates a USB  flash drive and boot the flash to install the bios

All bios downloads are here.  At least a dozen or more

I would not update the bios unless it was recommended by the HP Support Assistant and there are no errors when running the F2 UEFI diagnostics.

What did you do?  Did you expand the EFi partition?  Just do the USB install?   It would be helpful for other users to mark the solution.

There is another possibility that I had forgotten about.  The UEFI diagnostics can expand the a partition to allow newer versions of the UEFI tools. Possibly the tools go into a different partition than the bios but I believe the partitions are the same.

You might update the UEFI tools and see if the partition is expanded.

HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically.
When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics.
There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here
Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS',
Expand the'+'symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button.
The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button.
When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one.

This UEFI update can be downloaded on any system to a USB flash for later installation.
