Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

HP Support Assistant lists an update for system BIOS (Softpaq # SP76361, version F.28AP1).  I downloaded and installed and restarted when prompted.  No evidence of failure to install--BUT the Support Assistant continues to display a message that this update is available, and the Action Log does not appear to have the BIOS Update listed.

msinfo.exe shows BIOS Version/Date as:  Insyde F.28, 6/14/2016.

Have I successfully updated the BIOS?  If so, how do I make the Support Assistant stop prompting to update?  If not, why did I not get a message indicating failure when I tried to update.

Thank you,

Elaine

Hi @E591,

Thank you for posting at HP Forums!

I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that there is a BIOS update notification on your HP Support Assistant, and you tried to perform the update, but it came back after restarting the laptop.

It is not necessary to update the BIOS if the system is running right. You can dismiss the message in the HP Support assistant by click on the "X" next to the update or message.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

It appears that the "SP76361, version F.28" BIOS update was successfully installed. There is, however, an newer BIOS update available on your computer's support page. Please see the HP 15-f018dx Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR) - Drivers and software page and download/install SP76871, F.29 Rev.A, 08/01/2016.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

My laptop is out of warranty but HP Support Assistant on the toolbar told me to update the BIOS. I followed instructions which appeared to run correctly until it told me to restart. The PC closed down and now will not reboot. I can do a hard reset and the power light goes off. Press on and the power light comes on but no indication of anything on screen. HP web page says I should press F10 repeatedly to get a BIOS menu but that also does nothing. I have another PC so can download something to fix it but HP Pavilion only has USB as alternative input. As HP told me to do this update, I think they should fix it!

Have now followed instructions on webpage http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c02693833 to create flashdrive BIOS recovery. This worked up to the step "Continue startup" when the screen went blank (as described) but after a considerable time had not restarted. Again, hard power-off and power on brings no change except the power light comes on. It seems the 1 Aug 2016 BIOS is not compatible with my laptop (Model 11-n084sa) but the recovery web page does not offer any older BIOS.

Just got same result with SP76871.EXE as SP76942.EXE - BIOS install and check runs, but restart doesn't get beyond blank (black) screen.

I came accross the "plugged in, not charging" issue yesterday, January 17th, 2017 and, after reading about the BIOS update I proceeded with it and I now my laptop is back at charging.

I gave up. Took the laptop to a local shop who re-installed Windows 10 - without HP Support Assistant. Not at all impressed when an HP-prompted "upgrade" killed the machine but it's "out of warranty" so tough!

I am having the "plugged in but not charging" issue. I saw where there is a Bios update available. I did see where people said there was an issue with starting up the pc after the update but also a successful download that fixed the issue. There are 2 updates available  F.36 REV.A or F.37 REV.A. I am afraid that if I do thjis it may cause more problems. I don't know which one to download. I am running windows 10 on my HP15-4014wm Notbook PC

Bbelle,

Please verify the exact "Product Name" / "Model Number" of your computer, as "HP 15-4014wm" isn't a valid model. If I were to guess based on the info provided, I would guess that you have an HP 15-f014wm Notebook PC. Looking at the BIOS revisions and dates.... it is possible that there is a problem with the downloads. Please allow me to contact HP to determine the correct BIOS for with your computer.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
