Thanks for the info.

I checked, and as suspected, HP no longer stocks Recovery Media for your PC.

So, you will have to check the other sites I mentioned to see if they have recovery media.

Good Luck

Your new disk is most likely blank -- that is why you are getting the error message.

Ordinarily, I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. That would erase the entire drive, format the drive, and install the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.

Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC.  This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. They no long stock recovery media for the older PCs.

You can try contacting HP Customer Support directly, using the links below, to see if you can order if from them:

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
---------------------------------------
However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.
---------------------------------------

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/  and http://www.restoredisks.com/

I do have the same issue, Bootmgr is missing - press Ctrl/Alt/del.

I do have the original system recover DVD (two discs).  If I insert it, I am still getting the same message.

I did not install a new hard drive, but I replaced the cooling fan as it was siezed.

Need help please and thanks in advance

@jmvca

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand the computer has several issues since the format was interrupted,

The computer doesn't boot into windows as you get the error message-"boot MGR missing"

It's entirely possible that the interrupted format has ended up corrupting the windows operating system,

The same could be the cause of the random colors as it may have affected the graphics card drivers as well,

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to resolve this concern 🙂

If you recently installed an additional hard drive, turn off the computer and remove the drive before using the following steps:

  1. Open HP System Recovery:

 CAUTION:

Do not perform a system recovery! Stop at the first recovery screen.

  • Press the F11 key repeatedly while the computer is starting.
  • If you have a recovery disc, turn on the PC and insert the first recovery disc into the drive. Use the disc to enter the system recovery.
  1. Select Microsoft Startup Repair tool and wait for the repair to find and fix errors. When finished, restart the computer; even if the startup repair tool finds errors but cannot fix them.
  2. If the error message persists, open the recovery manager screen as was done in step 1.
  3. At the recovery manager screen, press ALT + D.
  4. Enter the following text at the command prompt: bootrec /rebuildbcd
  5. If bootrec displays "Add installation to boot list?", press y.

After bootrec completes successfully, the computer displays "The operation completed successfully".

  1. To close the command prompt, enter the following text: exit
  2. At the Recovery Manager screen, select Microsoft Startup Repair tool (again) and wait for startup repair to find and fix errors. When finished, restart the computer.
  3. The error should no longer open. If it does, perform a system recovery, making sure to backup important files.

If you removed a hard drive before using these steps, replace the drive. If the error occurs again, make sure the additional hard drive is not set as an active drive. Only the main bootable drive should be set as active.

I thank you for your reply.

After three days of trying everything and not receiving a reply from HP support Forum, I gave up and took it to someone who repairs computers.

He ran a test on the hard drive, and it was successful.  So he started Window recovery, and half way down, he got one of the errors I was getting, memory (something), so he ran a test on the memory.  He started getting so many errors, over 40,000 errors.  He pulled the memory out and he said here is the problem.

He replaced them with different memory from a different laptop he had, and started system recovery again.

Once he replaced the memory, everything ran smooth with no errors nor interrptions.  He installed all the drivers and made sure every thing is working.  So far, my laptop is working.

What is strange is, he told me that laptop hardly ever had problem with memory.  He believes that the memories that were in my computer were not the original.  I told him I never replaced them.  I took them only to one repair shop when I had a problem with the cooling fan.  I wonder if that person replaced the momories and put bad ones.

My question to you please, how would I know if the memory in my laptop was the original one or not?

I could send pictures if you like that included part number and CT number.  Also, the tag on the memory it states, " Replace with HP spare".  Does that mean these are not the original?

I thank you in advance for your reply and assistnace.

Thank you for replying,

To answer your question, it's possible the parts were replaced and if you wish to confirm the part numbers, I want to make this is transparent as i can so you know what parts and their numbers you have on your computer,

Please use the partsurfer & the parts store to get the information: Click here

I recommend checking with the store you got the last repair done at as well, as they should be able to help you out.

Keep me posted,
Regards,
