Hi @5CD1032D9K,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you are experiencing a serious issue with your laptop's hard drive or the connection to it. The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and the inability to see the hard drive in both Windows setup and the chkdsk command suggest a potential hardware failure or a problem with the drive connection. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and possibly resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check BIOS/UEFI Settings

Ensure that your hard drive is being recognized by the system BIOS/UEFI.

  • Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key to enter BIOS/UEFI setup (common keys are F2, F10, DEL, or ESC).
  • In the BIOS/UEFI setup, look for a section that displays the detected drives.
  • Verify if your hard drive is listed. If it’s not, it could indicate a connection issue or a failing drive.
  • Ensure that the SATA mode is set to AHCI. If it’s set to RAID or IDE, try changing it to AHCI.

Step 2: Check Physical Connections

  • Completely power off the laptop and unplug it from any power source.
  • Open the back panel of the laptop to access the hard drive (refer to your laptop’s manual for instructions).
  • Carefully disconnect and reconnect the hard drive, ensuring a secure connection.
  • Inspect the hard drive and connectors for any visible damage.

Step 3: Use a Bootable Diagnostic Tool

  • Download a diagnostic tool like Hiren’s BootCD PE, Ultimate Boot CD, or the manufacturer’s diagnostic tool (e.g., Seagate SeaTools, Western Digital Data Lifeguard).
  • Boot your laptop from the diagnostic tool USB.
  • Use the tool to perform a health check on your hard drive.

Step 4: Try a Different USB Port or Cable

  • Try plugging the USB drive into a different port on your laptop.
  • Create the installation media on a different USB drive if you have one available.

Step 5: Reinstall Windows with a New Hard Drive (if necessary)

  • Get a compatible replacement drive for your laptop.
  • Replace the old drive with the new one, following the steps to open the back panel and install the drive.:
  • Use your bootable USB to reinstall Windows on the new drive.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
