Pavilion AU620TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

Its been over 2 years  since I bought this laptop(HP Pavilion AU620TX). My issue is that while plugged, it takes usual time to charge till 70%. After that, the charging rate is very very slow. It shows 6 hours until full charge(though it takes much more than that..idk eternity).. I've browsed through various offiical and unoffical methods, but none worked.

Below are the few methods i have tried

1. Uinstall and reinstall MIcrosfot ACPI Driver. (Didn't Work)

2. Battery Diagnostics using HP Software Diagnostic App (NOPE!)

3. Battery check using UEFI Diagnostics (NO)

4. Drained Battery and tried charging..but wont go past 70,so no point of calibration.

5. Checked Battery and Adapter in UEFI Diagnostics (Test Passed but .. ☹️ )

6. Load Defaults in BIOS

7. Updated BIOS and drivers

I have no clue what went wrong. Is it a software issue or a hardware?? Or is it a Windows issue. As it seems to work normally till 70% i dont think of it as a harware issue.

Is it a a dual boot issue? But i don't think so as i've used it before. It worked like charm. Recently I removed Ubuntu 19 annd installed Ubuntu 16 (Clean Install not a dirty Downgrade). I don't remember exactly this issue bothering me then. Yeah, but it happened atfer Dual Boot (maybe some days after it).

I need dual boot and have used it before without any problem. So Help me out.

Help me resolving this issue. If not, atleast help me figure out what may have went wrong..

"Lifespan of lithium ion batteries"
"Lithium-ion batteries typically have a lifespan of between 300 to 500 charge cycles. They are expected to retain around 80% of their original battery capacity after 300 charge cycles, or after about one year of use."

Hi,

Try performing a battery check here:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics?category=computing&issue=battery-adapter-issues

It could be the battery, I usually replace the batteries about every 18 months as I start noticing a difference in the life of the battery.

Let me know,

David

Yeah that seems convincing..So then i 've to go for a new battery!

Is it required to buy the battery of the same specifications as of the original or do we have a little freedom over chosing the battery?(like going for a higher capacity? or a battery of higher voltage will fry the circuits)

Is it fine to buy from a online stores viz. Amazon or flipkart or from HP online store.?

Thank You

Hi,

First, try the test linked above. You can also take a look at the HP support page linked below

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04700771

The part number for the battery is 849909-855

You can try performing an online search with the part number to find an original or quality compatible battery.

On page 31 of the service manual, you can see the steps to replace the battery

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks David,

I did go through the links you shared above yesterday. The test results were 'OK" so I didn't bother to run Calibration. But now, I ran the test from the link you gave and it said calibration required!

So I'm going to run the calibration now and i'll let you know whether it solves the issue or not. Just two things..

    1.  It says "Fully charge your battery (99%-100%). " (I don'yt know how I'm suppose to do that. It literally took me an hour to go from 70 to 78 !.. Should i let it charge till 100 which would take hours more)

    2. After running the Extensive Hard Disk test to drain the battery. It says

           ">Fully charge the battery (99%-100%).
            >Keep the AC Adapter connected to the computer for 2.5 hours with the battery fully charged (99%-100%)"

So after charging fully to 100% (which i hope it would) am i suppose to leave it charging for another 2.5 hours??

Hi,

Yes, I would let it fully charge, maybe you can let it charge overnight. I mean you can leave it more than 2.5 hours and then try the next morning.

Regards,

David

I don't think I can calibrate the battery.. I kept it for charging for over 3 hours

Hey,

I got the same issue. I tried calibrating the battery but couldn't.

I let it charge for over 10 hours it couldn't get past 76%. So I calibrated it with with 76%, the issue persisted.

I think i ought to go for a new battery. I searched for the spare part no. you mentioned above. I couldn't find the exact one but i found the one with no. 849909-850 Is this the right one??
