Hi @Mikhenso,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop is experiencing rapid battery drain when unplugged. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.

Check Battery Health:

  • Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type powercfg /batteryreport. This will generate a report detailing the battery's health and performance, which you can review for any issues.

Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. Choose a power plan that prioritizes battery life, such as "Power saver." You can also customize the settings to reduce screen brightness and put the laptop to sleep more quickly when idle.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that all your drivers, particularly for the battery and chipset, are up to date. You can check for updates via Device Manager or through the HP Support Assistant.

Disable Background Apps:

  • Some applications running in the background can consume battery power. Go to Settings > Privacy > Background apps and turn off apps that you don’t need running.

Check for Power-Hungry Applications:

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check the Processes tab for applications that are consuming a lot of CPU or memory, which can also drain the battery quickly.

Calibrate the Battery:

  • Allow the battery to fully charge, then use the laptop until it drains completely. Charge it back to 100% without interruption. This can sometimes help recalibrate the battery meter.

Replace the Battery:

  • If your laptop is older, the battery may be reaching the end of its lifespan. Consider replacing it if other troubleshooting steps don’t improve performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
