I got a note that my laptop battery needed to be calibrated. Since Friday, I have tried to calibrate it. Now it says my 'hardware diagnostics' is not supported and needs to be updated. Where do I find them?? This is a new laptop and it seems odd to have an issue like this when I have had this machine for only 5-6 months? Has anyone gotten an answer to this issue?

@mommapooh7, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
You're seeing a message that your battery needs calibration, but when attempting to do so, you're told that "hardware diagnostics is not supported and needs to be updated." This can happen if the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool is outdated or missing.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve the battery calibration and diagnostics issue on your HP Notebook - 15-db0004dx running Windows 11:
Update or Install HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
This tool is essential for battery testing and calibration.
- Go to the official HP download page:
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support - Scroll to “Test the battery before Windows starts using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI”.
- Download and install the latest version of the tool.
- Follow the instructions to create a bootable USB or install it to your system BIOS.
Run Battery Test via UEFI
Once installed:
- Shut down your laptop.
- Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
- Run the test and note the results.
Calibrate the Battery Manually (if needed)
If the diagnostics suggest calibration:
- Fully charge the battery to 100%.
- Let the battery drain completely until the laptop shuts down.
- Recharge it uninterrupted to 100%.
This helps reset the battery gauge.
Additional Tips
- Make sure your BIOS is up to date. You can check for updates via HP Support Assistant.
