Hi @Chandransh08,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your battery drainage while the laptop is shut down can be due to several reasons, including incorrect shutdown procedures, hardware settings, or even battery health.
Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve this issue:
1. Ensure Proper Shutdown
- Make sure you are shutting down your laptop completely. Sometimes, selecting "Shut down" in Windows may not fully turn off the laptop due to fast startup settings.
- Fast Startup: This feature is designed to reduce startup time, but it can also cause the battery to drain while the laptop is shut down. You can disable Fast Startup by following these steps:
- Open Control Panel.
- Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
- Click Save changes.
2. Check for BIOS Settings
- Wake-on-LAN: This feature can cause the laptop to wake up periodically, draining the battery. Disable this setting in the BIOS.
- Access your BIOS settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Delete during startup) and look for any settings related to power or Wake-on-LAN. Disable any that might allow the laptop to wake up while shut down.
3. Update BIOS and Drivers
- An outdated BIOS or drivers can cause unexpected power drain. Visit the HP support website and check for the latest BIOS and driver updates for your laptop model.
- Follow the instructions provided on the HP website to update your BIOS and drivers.
4. Check for USB Power Drain
- Some laptops can supply power to USB ports even when turned off. This can cause battery drain if devices are left plugged in.
- Check your BIOS settings or the Device Manager in Windows for options to disable USB power delivery while the laptop is off.
5. Perform a Battery Health Check
- Your laptop's battery health might be degrading, causing faster discharge. You can check the battery health using HP's built-in diagnostic tools:
- Open HP Support Assistant and run the battery test.
- Alternatively, open a Command Prompt window and type powercfg /batteryreport to generate a battery report. Review the report for any significant capacity loss or errors.
6. Disconnect Peripherals and Turn Off External Devices
- Ensure that all peripherals (such as USB drives, mice, etc.) are disconnected when the laptop is shut down. External devices can sometimes draw power and cause the battery to drain.
7. Hibernate Instead of Shut Down
- As an alternative, you can put your laptop in hibernation mode instead of shutting it down. Hibernation saves the current state to the hard drive and completely powers off the laptop, preventing battery drain.
- To enable hibernation, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and check the Hibernate option.
8. Check for Firmware or Hardware Issues HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
- If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there might be a hardware problem with the battery or power circuitry.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
