When I am not using my laptop my battery charges just fine, but when i am using it and have it plugged in it does not charge at all, and it's very irritating. I just bought a new battery and adaptor as well. please help me.

Try performing a power reset on your laptop to see if the battery not charging issue persists. Remove your laptop battery, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then release the power button. Put your battery back in and plug your charger into your laptop.

Otherwise the most likely answer is that the lithium ion battery is starting to fail. As the battery ages it will require more current to charge, and retain less of that current. The power pack is simply not able to provide enough power to both run the computer and charge the battery at the same time.

Make use you have purchased the original manufacturer power tool and battery.
