HP Pavillion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am having constant issues with my battery. At the beginning of the problems, it used to come up with plugged in not charging and the battery would continue to lose power over the days. I found a temporary solution to this by updating the BIOS which would make the battery charge, however, when I turned my laptop on the next day it would go back to plugged in not charging. Recently, my laptop only says that it is plugged in. Currently, it is on 0% and not charging. I have tried updating the BIOS but that hasn't worked either. I downloaded the HP Battery Program Validation Utility and it hasn't detected my battery. How can I fix this issue? It has been an issue for around 1 year and I can't afford to replace this computer but I need it for work.

Hello @Laolaapanda

Try this:

  • Click on the Start Button
  • Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager
  • Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left
  • Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall

  • Eventually, press and hold the Power-ON Button for full 1 Minute

  • Once you start back your computer, ensure your PC is online (connected to the Internet)
  • Go to Control Panel -> Device Manager
  • Find the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" under batteries section
  • Right click it and choose "Update Driver Software"
  • Use the option to "Search automatically for updated driver" and use the online option / Windows Update
  • Restart the PC

Do you run the latest BIOS version ? You can check which one is the latest by going to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Let me know how it goes.  Thanks

My PC model is just the HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g115na (ENERGY STAR) N9S29EA#ABU

My laptop is a around 4-5 years old

I have tried to test the battery using this but the test get's cancelled. On the battery recall utility, the battery comes up that there isn't one.

The method you suggested I have done before and I am still having issues with the battery. I have searched and searched this forum because the "fixes" on here haven't solved my issue.

The bios for my system is the latest one I can find within the drivers on the HP site which is August 2019.

Hello @Laolaapanda

Thank you for the details provided.

If your battery is the same age as your PC (like 4-5 years old), then this is the problem. Batteries are not designed to last that long. You should replace it.

Here is the official article >> https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c00821572

However, I am not sure if you will be able to find an original genuine battery from HP considering the age of your device.
