Microsoft Windows 11

Once a month usually on the 30th or the 31st the laptop stops charging. The lighting bolt on the charge icon goes away and a warning message appears saying " Battery very low". I unplug and re-plug the charging cable into the port. The laptop reboots (after i tell it to reboot), and it starts normally. The charge icon shows a lighting bolt as its now charging. The charger is working perfectly and its not a charging port/charger issue, Its a windows issue, It seems it does this every 30 days. The system gets to day 30 and something triggers a charging shutdown. I believe its a driver issue, but I cant seen to find a HP driver that corrects this...It only happens once a month.

Can someone please help? Exasperated, Tim

@LVNASCAR, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

That’s an unusual and oddly consistent issue—like your laptop has a hidden “monthly reset” switch! 😅 Since this happens every 30 days. Let's go step by step:

Check Windows Power & Battery Settings

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings

Expand Battery and check settings under:

Critical battery action > Set to Do Nothing

Low battery level > Make sure it’s not weirdly set to 0%

Reserve battery level > Increase to around 5%

Check Battery Driver & Reset ACPI Controls

Since it resumes charging after a reboot, Windows’ battery driver (ACPI Control Method Battery) could be messing up.

Open Device Manager > expand Batteries > right-click on:

  • Microsoft AC Adapter > Uninstall
  • Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > Uninstall

Restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.

Disable Fast Startup

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does.

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Uncheck Turn on fast startup.

Save changes & restart.

Update BIOS

Check for BIOS updates via HP Support Assistant or the HP website using your laptop's serial number.

HP Consumer Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows) | HP® Support

I hope this helps.
