I bought my laptop brand new one week ago.

I believe I have tried most things that has been suggested in other posts about the same issue.

There has been a few updates completed this week so I am not sure if that is the reason

Hi@Clarissa7,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing Battery issues with the HP Notebook PC.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to latest BIOS from HP.COM.
  • For Testing and Calibrating the Battery please click this link
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.

Try changing the power mode to "Balanced" or "Better Performance" as the default setting.

Go to "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options" > "Change plan settings" > "Change advanced power settings"
Scroll down, click on "Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Setting" > "Config TDP Level",
Then select the middle value for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In".
Scroll further down. Select "Processor power management";
Then select "Maximum processor state";
Change the value from 100% to 96% for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In" options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi,

I tried all these. Including calibrating the battery but nothing seemed to work and is still not charging properly. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your response.

When you say that the battery won't charge to 100% may I know at what percentage it gets stuck?

Have you made any hardware or software related changes to it?

Try draining the charge to 0% and shutdown. Once done, try charging it again and see if that makes any difference.

Along with that, run a hardware diagnostics to check if there are any errors: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2854458-2733239-16

Let me know.

Did you check in BIOS and/or in HP software that the optimal battery charge plan is not in effect? What I new laptops have a (very useful) feature of limiting the battery charge to prolong it's lifespan. For example it will charge to 50 or 60% and the stop completly. No matter if you do it with the machine powered off or not.
