Hi HP Support community,
I am writing to request technical assistance with my HP 650 G1 laptop. Recently, I have noticed that the Caps Lock indicator LED is blinking continuously when I power on or use the laptop. I get 5 blinks then the fan kicks in. No display on the screen.

This issue started when I tried to use a a wireless mouse. The laptop froze, I focused it to shut it down using the power button. When trying to power it back on, I noticed the blinking LED and no display on the screen.

Could you please provide guidance on troubleshooting this blinking Caps Lock light? Additionally, if this indicates a hardware fault or requires servicing, kindly advise me on the next steps to get this issue resolved. I would appreciate any recommended solutions, diagnostics, or instructions you can offer.

Below are some details of my laptop for your reference:

Model: HP 650 G1
Operating System: Windows 10

Hello,
Good day. Thank you for reaching out to the Hp community. I will be happy to assist you here. Brilliant troubleshooting and dedication to try and resolve the issue. Kudos to you for that.
If the BIOS recovery is not working on your HP ProBook 650 G1, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Power Cycle the Laptop:

    • Ensure the laptop is completely powered off.
    • Remove the power adapter and also disconnect any other peripherals.
    • Remove the battery if it is detachable (for laptops with a removable battery).
    • Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then attempt to power on the device.
  2. Use HP BIOS Update Utility:

    • Connect the laptop to power. Leave USB devices and network cables disconnected.
    • Press the Windows key + B key simultaneously, and while holding them, press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds.
    • Release the power button while continuing to hold the Windows and B keys.
    • You might hear beeping sounds, and the screen might flash. If the recovery process begins, follow any on-screen instructions.
  3. Create a BIOS Recovery USB Key:

    • Use another computer to visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
    • Enter the model of your laptop and download the latest BIOS version.
    • Follow the instructions to create a BIOS recovery USB key.
    • Insert this USB into the affected laptop and attempt the BIOS recovery sequence again.
  4. Update or Reinstall the BIOS:

    • If a recovery process is achieved, follow on-screen instructions to reinstall or update the BIOS.
    • It's important to ensure that you are installing the latest BIOS version suited for your specific laptop model.
  5. If the issue is not resolved please connect us over private message we will be happy to help further.
