HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab165us (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi:  I have a HP Pavilion 15" Notebook I really like, I need to update the Bios it's currently running F17, I upgraded the memory and I am having a ACPI Boot-loop problem, I am trying to fix, plus because of the age of this, the Bios should be updated anyway.  It's running Windows 10, 64 Bit. Serial # 5CD5525S99 It's coming up as a newer Elite 14" laptop which it isn't.  N5R27UA-ABA Product and 80B2 System Board. Please help, Thank You, Regards Heike

@Heike1960,

The latest BIOS file I can find for 15-ab165us (Intel) is v.F.90, which can be downloaded from the link below.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96001-96500/sp96307.exe

Readme file for F.90:

There's a 15-ab165us (Intel) in the Product line.

But the product number (N5R27UA) and serial number point to a 15-ab120cy which is an AMD model, so which model do you need a BIOS update file for?

If you have an ACPI BIOS error, it can only be resolved by changing the TPM setting, not by a BIOS update.

Turn on the notebook and immediately tap the F10 key repeatedly to enter the BIOS setting -> Security menu -> TPM setting -> change it from Available to Hidden -> save and exit to restart.

The latest BIOS file for your model (AMD) is v. F.54, which can be downloaded from the link below.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp97001-97500/sp97106.exe

Readme file for F.54:

I did the security TPM setting - Hidden in my BIOS settings, and it worked to get rid of the ACPI Error / Stopcode windows blue screen, Thanks so much...

To make it easier to install the BIOS and drivers under HP, can you tell me what I need to put in to get to the drivers for my system, when I put in my serial number or N5R27UA-ABA it gives me either different systems or HP doesn't support it anymore?? is there a place I can go to update it, or a legacy spot where the files are?? Thanks again for everything, Heike

You are welcome.

HP retired support for your model as it reached the end of support life.

HP reassigns the serial numbers of some of retired models to new notebooks. Obviously, that's what happened to your model's serial number.

Since HP removed all the support content for your model from their websites, you may need to use third-party driver support websites if you need drivers. Let me know if you need any particular drivers and I can look up.

BTW, if you update the BIOS to F.54, the ACPI error may come back as the TPM's default setting in the new BIOS is 'Available.' You will need to go back to the BIOS and hide the TPM again.
