Hi @Jamessite,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To determine how much space you need to free up for a BIOS update on your HP Notebook - 17, you'll need to check the size of the BIOS update file itself. Typically, BIOS update files are relatively small, often just a few megabytes in size.

Here's what you can do.

  • Check the Size of the BIOS Update File: Download the BIOS update file from the official HP support website or wherever it's provided for your specific laptop model. Once downloaded, check the file properties to see its size. Right-click on the file, select "Properties," and look for the file size.
  • Free Up Space: Depending on the size of the update file, you may need to free up at least that much space on your hard drive. You can do this by deleting unnecessary files, uninstalling unused applications, or transferring files to an external storage device.
  • Ensure Adequate Free Space: As a general rule of thumb, it's good practice to keep at least 10-20% of your hard drive space free for optimal performance. So even if the BIOS update file itself doesn't take up much space, it's a good idea to ensure you have sufficient free space on your hard drive.

Once you've determined the size of the BIOS update file and freed up enough space on your hard drive, you should be able to proceed with the BIOS update without encountering the "not enough space" error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
