Given the date of your post, I would have expected someone to respond to it before this -- but since that has not happened, I will take a shot at it ...
According to the HP product page for your PC, the only BIOS update is for "improved security" -- which would have nothing to do with the issues you are having with VMware workstation.
Since we are unable to support non-HP software, you would have to contact their support forum to find out why the installation is not working.
