My laptop showed "plugged in, not charging" when plugged in. I tried troubleshooting the battery and saw that the computer cannot detect my battery. I first tried a hard reset by uninstalling the battery, removing it, and  reinstalling it. When that didn't work, I googled what to do and saw that the bios may need to be updated for the computer to detect the battery. I downloaded the latest bios for my device from the hp website. When I tried to run it, I got a message "bios update is blocked for this device". I then tried putting the bios on a flashdrive to manually update the bios. I could not find the correct bios update for my system board ID number which is 81ED. The closest file was named 081FF. 

How can I find the correct bios to use to update?

Let's reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and check if that helps

 

Step 01. Click on the Start Button
Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager
Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left
Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall
Note: This Battery driver will get re-installed automatically when you restart the Notebook again
Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook
Step 06. Please remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter
Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute
Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter
Step 09. Look for "Plugged In Charging" message on the Battery icon

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers and BIOS for your Notebook

 

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

 

If the issue persists run a Battery Test to confirm the Hardware Functionality

 

- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. 
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Power > Battery
