HP Pavilion dv7-3010sf Entertainment Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am trying to repair an old pavilion dv7-3010sf. The problem it encounters is a black screen, while only Caps lock and Number lock are blinking by series of 2; from what I've found, it could indicate a bios corruption, so I am searching for a tool to repair this bios or the file to repair bios with an usb flash drive, since HP support is done for this computer.

I already tried to remove the hard drive from the computer, turn on the computer without the hard drive to try to return to the previous bios, and then putting back the HDD, but nothing happened.

Then, I tried to use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool, which is asking me for the product ID (VJ729EA#ABF), but it is asking to contact HP support because it is not available.

Thanks for any help.

Hi, @TanTanguy the issue could most likely be a BIOS corruption.

Try these tips out.

  1. Disconnect the power
  2. Remove the battery
  3. Remove the cover on the back (one screew)
  4. Disconnect hard drive, memory and CMOS battery
  5. Hold the power on button for at least 60 seconds (saw some recommendations with 15 seconds that's not enough)
  6. Then reconnect the power

In both cases, the screen should go back and then you will see the BIOS being reprogrammed. Of course, at this stage the system does not find any OS. So power down. Reconnect HDD, CMOS battery. Put the cover back. Reconnect the battery and the power cable and the system reboots.

If this process seems too technical for you, then take the laptop to a technician to carry out these steps for you.

Sadly, I did what you told my and my screen didn't show anything more than before; however, it did make some beeps when I tried turning it on while it had HDD, RAM and CMOS battery disconnected, then stopped the beeps. I powered it off, then re-installed all of these components, powered on again, but still nothing on screen, and still series of 2-blinks from the LED of the keyboard...

Thanks for your advice anyway 👍
