The computer would turn on but no load. Bios failed/bios500. I updated bios from usb and computer booted with no problems. Today I tried to start up after not turning it on for a few days and it wouldn’t boot. The battery in this machine is shot. It was constantly plugged in do it has to be plugged in to work. I don't know if that is related. I tried using the same usb I used before but it was a no go.  It’s actually my grandmom’s computer. What is the next step?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Let's try BIOS recovery method:

  1. Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds.

  3. Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.

  4. If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps but press the Windows key and the V key. If the screen still does not display, your computer might not support the feature or there is a hard drive issue. Continue to the next section to Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive.

  5. If the Power light turns off, the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for only 2 to 3 seconds.

  6. The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically.

Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.

  7. If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps but press the Windows key and the V key. If the screen still does not display, your computer might not support the feature or there is a hard drive issue. Continue to the next section to Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive.

  8. If the Power light turns off, the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for only 2 to 3 seconds.

  9. The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically.

  10. If a BIOS recovery message repeatedly displays, continue to the next section to Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive.

  11. If a message that the computer improperly shut down or a boot problem is detected displays, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the error.

  12. If Windows starts, update to the latest BIOS version. Go to HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS for more information.

  13. If a BIOS recovery message repeatedly displays, continue to the next section to Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive.

  14. If a message that the computer improperly shut down or a boot problem is detected displays, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the error.

  15. If Windows starts, update to the latest BIOS version. Go to HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS for more information.
If this recovery method fails, use another working computer to create a BIOS recovery flash drive to install the latest BIOS file.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Thanks for responding! I did recover BIOS using a flash drive. I was abled to fully use the computer. A week later when I tried to turn it on it didn't boot. I tried using the same flash drive to recover BIOS again but I was unable to get it to boot.

Thank you forf posting back.

Firstly, perform Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

Next try and perform  BIOS recovery using the flash drive.

Keep me posted.
