Hi @CL731, Welcome to HP Support Community. 👋

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The message "Getting the system BIOS. Pending image is being cleared" during startup on your HP notebook usually indicates a BIOS update process or a corruption issue. Here are some steps you can try to fix it:

Power Cycle the Laptop

  • Turn off your laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then try turning it on.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, disconnect it.
  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Hold the power button for 15-30 seconds.
  • Plug in the power adapter (without the battery) and turn on the laptop.

Reset BIOS to Default

  • Try entering the BIOS Setup:
    • Power on the laptop and immediately start pressing the F10 key repeatedly.
    • Once inside the BIOS, look for an option to Reset to Default Settings (usually under "Exit" or "Advanced").
    • Save changes and restart.

Force a BIOS Recovery

If the BIOS is corrupted, you may need to recover it manually:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press and hold Win + B (or Win + V) while pressing the power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Win + B (or Win + V) until you see the BIOS recovery screen.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to restore the BIOS.

Update or Reinstall BIOS via USB

If the issue persists, you may need to reinstall the BIOS using a USB recovery drive:

  1. On another computer, go to the HP Software & Driver Downloads.
  2. Enter your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update.
  3. Create a BIOS recovery USB drive using the downloaded file.
  4. Insert the USB into the affected laptop and boot while holding Win + B

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day. 🙂
