When I logged into my computer, I saw BIOS update in progress, after which, I tried booting into the machine and found out repair screen with BCD error code 98. Windows installation was detected in c:/windows, but when rebuilding BCD, it fails with specified path not found. system extensive test passed.

I don't have a recovery drive /DVD.

Hi!

I'm having the exact same issue. Last week, there was a suggested BIOS update. I've accepted it which I've never done before. Since then, I can't boot Windows. Error

File: \BCD

Error code: 0xc0000098

I've tried several things.

fix mbr works

fixboot => Access Denied

rebuildbcd => path not found

Tried chkdsk, cd boot, etc. nothing works.

Have you found any solution ? Shouldn't have installed this F.36 BIOS Update.

Thank you in advance!

I'm thinking of taking out the M.2, transferring the data. Now, in the worst case, laptop will reset, that's fine because, the data is already out.

I just FOUND A SOLUTION!!!

First of all, all my data was supposed to be uploaded on my OneDrive. I booted on a Linux Ubuntu USB Drive to make a quick verification since I didn't want to remove the SSD.

I tried several methods as explained in my previous reply. I was about to reset everything but then I found this website with a video.
Where is Windows 10 BCD file located? (frameboxxindore.com)
How to Fix Error Code 0xc0000098 in Windows 10/8/7 | Boot Configuration Data BCD File is Missing - Y...

It's about the same methods that are explained, but the first solution suggested is the one that worked for me. It wasn't explained in other forums. It's really simple and explained at 4:27 in the video.

In brief, run BCDEDIT in CMD.

Then, type BCDBOOT C:\Windows (where C: is the partition where Windows is installed)

=> Boot file successfully created. (I had another line with a kind of error, but I've run the command with D partition and C again and the "error" disappeared.

That's it! Exit CMD, and CONTINUE BUTTON to boot on windows. My windows 10 loaded just as it would.

I hope this will help other people too!
