Hi @Arup03

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry this has been interfering with your experience—especially when it prevents you from running games smoothly. You’ve done the right thing by checking for safe, manufacturer-aligned steps.

To manage or disable BitLocker encryption on your HP laptop’s C: drive, HP advises using Windows built-in tools such as Control Panel or Settings, and only if your device is not governed by organizational policies.

These steps ensure data protection is maintained while allowing you to adjust encryption settings.

Steps to turn off BitLocker encryption (HP-aligned method)

Open BitLocker settings via Control Panel

  • Press Windows + S, type Control Panel, and open it
  • Go to System and Security > BitLocker Drive Encryption
  • Locate your C: drive and click Turn Off BitLocker
  • Confirm and allow the decryption process to begin

Monitor decryption progress

  • The process may take time depending on your drive size
  • You can continue using your laptop while it decrypts

Check for policy restrictions

  • If the option to turn off BitLocker is greyed out, your device may be managed by a work or school account
  • In such cases, encryption settings may be enforced by group policy or Microsoft Intune

Verify BitLocker status

  • Press Windows + X, select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin)
  • Type:manage-bde -status C:
  • This confirms whether BitLocker is active, paused, or fully decrypted

Let me know if the decryption option is unavailable or if you’re unsure about policy restrictions—I’ll guide you through checking those safely.

You’re doing everything right by seeking a solution that respects your system’s integrity.
