My grandson did something to my HP Envy Laptop. A blue screen appeared with a request for the BitLocker Recovery Key. I purchased my laptop from HP.com. Microsoft does not have the key since I ordered MS office after I received my laptop. Windows was installed when I purchased my laptop. Nothing makes sense nor am I given an option on HP Support. I need the BitLocker Recovery Key. My updated files were not saved to a flash drive.

@Suezen53, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding BitLocker Recovery Key for Your HP Envy Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
BitLocker Recovery Keys can be obtained through several channels depending on how you set up BitLocker on your device. Since Microsoft Office was installed after purchase, it’s possible that the Recovery Key wasn’t backed up to your Microsoft account at that time. Here are steps you can follow to attempt to recover the key:
Check Your Microsoft Account
If your laptop was configured using a Microsoft account, follow these steps to check for your recovery key:
- Visit Microsoft Recovery Key Page: This page may provide your BitLocker key if you have previously saved it to your Microsoft account during setup or any subsequent actions.
- Log Into Your Microsoft Account: Use the email, phone, or Skype username associated with your Microsoft account to sign in and view any saved recovery keys.
- Match Your Device: If multiple devices are listed, find the recovery key that matches your HP Envy Laptop using device names for identification.
Other Recovery Key Locations
- Printed Copy: When you set up BitLocker, there may have been an option to print the recovery key. Check any locations where you store such information.
- USB Drive: If you saved the key to a USB flash drive, connect it to another device to view the contents for a possible text file containing the key.
- Cloud Domain Account: If your device connects to a work or school domain, the key may be stored in those settings. Contact your administrator.
- Local Files: Check non-encrypted hard drives for a text file (.txt) that might contain the recovery key.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
