BitLocker

HP Recommended
HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just purchased a HP Envy laptop and have been locked out by BitLocker. I did not set this up or turn it on. My Microsoft account is currently locked and cannot send me codes for 30 days because I changed my security details. Can BitLocker be bypassed so I can actually get into my laptop and turn it off?

@FelicityW Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are stuck in BitLocker while you have not set up the  BitLocker.

Do not worry. I will try to help you.

BitLocker is a Microsoft software designed to protect your PC against offline attacks, unauthorized access typically if your PC gets stolen. BitLocker is full disk encryption software. More info:

>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitLocker

>> http://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-bitlocker-encryption-windows-10

BitLocker was activated by someone on this PC and during the activation time it prompts the user to save/store the key in a safe place.

If this is company owned asset/device, you should turn to your company's IT support guys and they should be able to provide you with the recovery key

If this is your own personal device, and if you don't know your recovery key, most probably you use a slightly different BitLocker version for certain PCs and tablets known as Device encryption. Your key might be stored in Microsoft OneDrive with your Microsoft account here :

>> https://onedrive.live.com/recoverykey

More info >> https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/12/microsoft-may-have-your-encryption-key-heres-...

Try these and let me know if you manage to find the key.

If you don't find your key, there is no way to unlock the data on the hard disk drive and you will need to format it and reimage/reinstall Windows.
