Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

HP Pavilion laptop (purchased 2022) has now locked me out (Bitlocker) - it seems that Bitlocker was activated since I did not activate it.  How do I retrieve the key when I was not the one who activated it (so it can't be on my MS account)?

If you don't have the Bitlocker recovery key you can see this link from Microsoft but I'm 99% sure it will be of no use to you.

 

Find your BitLocker recovery key - Microsoft Support

 

You will have to reinstall Windows on the drive and you will not be able to recover any data from it.
