Notebook HP - 15-ac089nl (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After upgrading the Bios to F24 rev.A the notebook turns on and remains the black screen.
I have to force the shutdown and then restart. I could not downgrade the BIOS. I installed the latest version of windows 10 64 bit Fall Creators. With the previous Bios version it worked perfectly.

@RobyVann

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Notebook - 15-ac089nl and after performing a BIOS update, the display screen is black. The laptop does not boot to Windows. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

Were you facing any issues with the laptop due to which you attempted a BIOS update?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the issue persists then please perform a BIOS rollback on the laptop. The steps mentioned under "Step 1: Recover the BIOS using a key press combination" will help.

Hope this helps. Let me know the outcome. Good luck! 🙂

This happens after the upgrade from F23 rev.A to F24 rev.A.
I turn on the notebook the HP logo appears on the screen ... after 5 seconds try to load the Windows 10 Fall Creators 64-bit operating system but the screen goes black and the hard disk stops.
I hold the on / off botton pressed for 3 seconds, the notebook switches off.
Switching on the notebook again starts up normally but with a short "wait" windows screen.
The Desktop starts up as slowly as after an abnormal restart. Then everything works perfectly.

I tried to downgrade with a USB stick by loading the Bios F23 rev A.
I did the operation from the HP bios tool before starting windows ... it does not accept it.
I also did the Bios Roll back with the windows key + B .... but it remains as before.
I have read other forums with other users who have the same problem after upgrading to F24 rev. A of the HP Bios

Tnx

Roberto

@RobyVann

You're welcome Roberto.

You've been fabulous to work with considering your superb technical skills, remarkable patience and great attitude. Kudos to you for that.

If you're unable to roll back the BIOS to the previous version then I suggest you to contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options for your laptop. As the motherboard may require a tattoo/Bios Flash.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted for any further questions. All the best! 🙂

I'm sorry but I will not contact a paid technical service in Italy as the problem was born of a BIOS programming problem made by HP.
It does not seem right to me that the end user does not have the possibility to automate the BIOS downgrade.
Tnx
