HP laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Upon getting the blue screen - after restart the black screen with error 0xc0000102 I cannot get into any of the startup solutions, it gets as far as the start up menu, but F2 and F11 do not do anything, returns to black screen with message in a blue banner: Selected Boot Image did not Authenticate, Press <enter> to continue - that just turns off the laptop again

This is a common error code telling that some database or system file is corrupted. You can do following things

1. Recovery from the recovery media given with the laptop itself

2. Recovery from recovery media created by you or given or purchased from hp

3. Create recovery media from windows and boot up the system from that. After that when you connect your system with internet it will automatically get activated. Then install drivers from hp website.

For step by step guide please dig in the community or reply here. I will post because that is a separate question.

Give a kudos if this is helpful to you.

Hi

If the ESC and F2 do not work, neither does F11 then I wonder if the PC is a few years old and the CMOS/RTC battery is discharged.

https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-check-the-cmos-battery

If so the PC will revert to default settings.  Which may be Legacy Boot and not Secure Boot.

A hard reset fails?

First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.

Hello Atanu4, thank you for the reply - point 1 and 2 not relevant, I have not received a recovery media with the laptop, and have not got my own either. If I cannot get the laptop to start up how can I create a recovery media from Windows?? I am just out of warranty - 24-4-2020 - typical, and unsure what to do..... Please advise

Hello Lil_Boy_Blue - tried the hard reset as well - no joy..... Laptop bought in late 2017/start 2018 - so not that old... Any other options I can try? Is there a support desk I can call??

Hi

https://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

~~~~~~~~~~
From 2016 onwards there is a possible recovery option via the cloud...
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 7 & 10)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205
OR
This First part only works when a valid Recovery Partition is enabled.
If it displays an error message then move onto the Second part,
OR if you have data you wish to try and save using the XCOPY command.
Then create your own Repair/Recovery/Rebuild/Re-install media or buy a set from HP.
Turn off the computer.
Disconnect all connected devices and cables, Media Drives, USB drives, printers, & faxes.
Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, or power cord.
WARNING - ONE WAY ONLY, WIPES ALL DATA - NON-RECOVERABLE
Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second,
until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot, and work your way through the screens.
Second Part:-
This may require another PC. Find and Download your .iso from…
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Expand/Extract/Burn the iso Image onto a DVD/USB as needed.
Microsoft’s Creator Tool will make the required DVD or USB.
Even though it has NO actual HP software/drivers included, you may be able to
XCOPY the C:\Users\* area onto a ‘large’ USB stick, via the Command Prompt.
You’ll need to try various drive letters; D:..-..Z: until it’s matched - could be G; mine’s S:
C:\>XCOPY C:\Users\* S:\ /e /i /h (then files like those 3 listed below get copied over)
C:\Users\desktop.ini
C:\Users\All Users\agent.1509128044.bdinstall.bin
C:\Users\All Users\HP Deskjet 2540 series\Help\flash\zoom.swf
Then you can try System Recovery Options / Advanced Options shown in the screenshots.
W8 Repair.pngRecovery Reinstall.png
W10 Begin with the Automatic Repair, then Startup Settings etc.
This will not work for everyone, but you may be lucky?
HP Notebooks and Mobile Workstations -
No Power, No Boot, No Display When Power Button Is Pressed
NOTE: Be sure the battery is installed in the computer and it has sufficient power before continuing. Due to the design of the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller, the power supply must be disconnected and the computer must be powered with battery power to reset the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller.
Unplug the AC power from the computer.
Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds.
Release the power button (after at least 12 seconds).
The computer will power on and should boot normally after releasing the power button.
Re-connect the AC power to the computer.
NOTE: In case the battery is not charging after performing the steps to reset the Embedded Controller, unplug and re-plug in the AC power again.
Well that's a difficult situation. You have to find a working laptop along with a internet connection and a 32gb pen drive to create a bootable usb media. If not possible to find a working computer then you have to locate a hp service center or to a computer repair center as they have windows image and they can use that image to boot up your system again. But by chance if you find a working computer with an internet connection you can plug in usb stick and visit following link.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10
Then click on "Create windows 10 installation media"
You will get a bootable media with fresh windows only. recover your dead pc with this usb media.
