Hi @Nikki_28,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing a blue screen error on your HP Notebook can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a general guide to help you address the problem:
Step 1: Boot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer.
Press the F8 key repeatedly as your computer restarts. This should bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu.
Select "Safe Mode" from the list.
If your computer successfully boots into Safe Mode without the blue screen error, the problem might be related to a recently installed driver or software. Continue with the steps below.
Step 2: Uninstall Recent Updates or Drivers
- Go to "Control Panel" > "Programs" > "Programs and Features."
- Click on "View installed updates" on the left sidebar.
- Look for any recent updates (especially Windows updates) or drivers that were installed around the time the issue started.
- Right-click on the update or driver and select "Uninstall."
Step 3: Check for Malware
- Boot into Safe Mode (as explained in Step 1).
- Run a full system scan using your antivirus or antimalware software.
Step 4: System Restore
- Boot into Safe Mode.
- Type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar and select the corresponding result.
- In the System Properties window, click on the "System Restore" button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a point before the issue occurred.
Step 5: Update Drivers
- Boot into Safe Mode.
- Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."
- Look for any devices with a yellow triangle, indicating a driver issue. Right-click on those devices and choose "Update driver."
Step 6: Check for Disk Errors
- Open a Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type chkdsk /f and press Enter. Follow the on-screen instructions to schedule a disk check on the next restart.
Step 7: Perform a System File Check (SFC)
- Open a Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Allow the process to complete.
Step 8: Check for Overheating
Overheating can also cause system instability. Ensure that your laptop's cooling system is functioning properly, and clean any dust from the vents.
Step 9: Perform a System Reset or Reinstall Windows
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, you may need to consider performing a system reset or reinstalling Windows.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
