Hi @Nandiwal,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m really sorry to hear your HP Laptop 15-bs542tu is stuck with a black screen after installing the 2024 BIOS update, especially with a partially broken internal keyboard. You’ve done the right thing by preparing a USB with the BIOS file and having an external keyboard ready. Let’s try to recover your laptop step-by-step.

BIOS Recovery Using USB (With External Keyboard)

Step 1: Prepare the USB Drive

Make sure your USB drive:

  • Is formatted to FAT32
  • Contains the correct BIOS file for your 15-bs542tu model

Step 2: Perform BIOS Recovery

Since your internal keyboard has broken keys, use your external USB keyboard for these steps:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely
  2. Insert the USB drive with the BIOS file
  3. Hold down the following keys on the external keyboard:
    • Windows + B
    • While holding them, press and hold the Power button for 2–5 seconds
  4. Release all keys and wait; the screen may stay black for a few seconds
  5. If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear and begin flashing the BIOS.

Step 3: If Recovery Doesn’t Start

Try this alternate key combo:

  • Windows + V instead of Windows + B
  • Repeat the same power button press and hold

Also:

  • Try different USB ports
  • Ensure the USB is plugged directly (not via a hub)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
