Hello, I tried to update my bios on my HP Victus because my SD card slot wasn't working and I saw there was a fix for it. The update seemed to complete but then the screen went blank and stayed like that for 30 minutes. I tried to restart the computer and got the same result. I've been trying to the bios recovery process since yesterday and I've been getting the same result, blank screen, nothing happens. Or it will start the process and then reboot and hang. I finally got it to work this morning, but then windows updated the bios again and now i'm having the same issue again.

Hi @timeless320,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

This is a tough situation, and I completely understand how frustrating it is, especially after thinking the BIOS update would fix your SD card issue, only to end up with a blank screen and repeated failures. Let’s break down what’s happening and how to recover your HP Victus:

Steps to Fix BIOS Boot Loop on HP Victus

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect all peripherals (USB drives, SD cards, etc.).
  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Plug back in and try powering on.

2. BIOS Recovery from HP

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold Power for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release Power but keep holding Windows + B until you see the BIOS recovery screen.
  • If recovery starts, let it finish completely.

3. Use HP BIOS Recovery USB

If the above fails:

  • On another PC, download the latest BIOS for your Victus from HP: 👉 Official HP® Support
  • Use HP BIOS Update Utility to create a recovery USB.
  • Insert the USB into your Victus and repeat the Windows + B recovery steps.

4. Disable Automatic BIOS Updates

Once you recover:

  • In HP Support Assistant, turn off BIOS updates.
  • In Windows Update, pause updates or disable firmware updates via Group Policy.

5. If Recovery Fails

  • The motherboard may need service if the BIOS chip is corrupted beyond recovery.
  • Contact HP Support for repair or board replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
