My laptop is 3yrs old. The otherday my battery drained before I could get it plugged in. When I did, it booted up, I logged in and then it went to black screen and that's how it's been. To compound the problem, my task manager will not do anything with the troubleshooting of running a new task to check for drivers or check Shell for explorer.exe. I did find away to run regedit and modified the shell to say explorer.exe but no luck and each time I check it goes back to something else. The only thing I haven't done is hook my laptop to a monitor or tv as I don't have a cable for that. I can't get my laptop to boot into safe mode. I don't know what my next move should be. I've done as much as I can through support videos but without task manager or safe mode, I'm kind of stuck. Any help would be really appreciated!

Have you run any Diagnostics? Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and run the tests.

For Safe Mode have you tried Shift plus Restart?

Thanks! Yes, I've done a diagnostics and all came back fine. I've tried putting my laptop in safe mode by doing shift and restart but despite selecting safe mode - doesn't boot back up into safe mode.
