HP Pavilion dm4
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Admittedly a very old product, but my mother tried some Microsoft updates on her HP Pavilion dm4. I think she probably had a corrupted version of Windows uploaded on her Pavilion, as she got it from a relative. Anyway, one day after the updates when it required a restart of the computer, the computer would load through the start-up but once you get to the Windows homescreen, it's completely black save for the cursor. There is simply nothing to click on or anywhere to go.

We have a legitimate Windows Vista disk, but nothing seems to be working. We've run all of the start-up tests you can at boot. We've considered buying another version of Windows to try and install, but don't want to do that if that's not the issue. I'm sorry I can not be more specific, but please ask questions if you feel they'd help. The computer seems to be in good working order otherwise, just completely unusable for Windows.
